Women artisans weaving traditional reed craft in North East India

Just A Spell Away

Crafted by women. Inspired by nature. From North East India.

A home for slow, intentional living — where traditional craft meets the quiet magic of everyday spaces.

“Home is only a spell away — a breath, a texture, a colour that turns a room into a sanctuary.”

That belief is woven into every JASA piece. We create for people who choose warmth over hurry, and objects that feel lived-in from the first day.

Artisan hands at work with natural fibres

Where we began

Rooted in Guwahati, reaching homes across India

Just A Spell Away began as a small studio in Assam with a simple intention: to bring the skill of North East artisans to homes that value craft, comfort and conscience. The name speaks to what we believe — that the right texture, colour or handmade detail can transform an ordinary room into somewhere you exhale.

What started with reed baskets and cushion covers shared among friends has grown into a considered range of home linen, botanical textiles and gifting pieces — each designed to feel warm, useful and quietly luxurious in daily life.

We partner with women makers who preserve reed weaving, natural dyeing and textile finishing techniques passed down through generations. Many work from home or in small collective spaces, balancing family, craft and community with the same care they bring to every weave and stitch.

Fair wages, steady work and respect for their time are non-negotiable. We visit clusters across Assam and the wider North East, listen to what makers need, and build long-term relationships rather than one-off orders — because beautiful objects should never come at the cost of the hands that make them.

Today, from our base in Guwahati, we ship nationwide — carrying stories of slow craft, natural materials and mindful living into homes in every corner of India.

Slow living

Design for unhurried mornings, long conversations and rooms that feel calm, not staged.

From fibre to home

How every piece is made

  1. Source & prepare

Natural fibres and reed are selected, cleaned and prepared by artisan clusters across Assam and the North East.

  2. Weave & print

Patterns are woven or printed using time-honoured methods — botanical motifs, heritage textures and calm, earthy palettes.

  3. Finish & quality

Each item is cut, stitched or assembled by hand, then checked for durability, feel and finish before it leaves our studio.

  4. Pack & send with care

Thoughtfully wrapped from Guwahati to your doorstep — plastic-conscious packaging and gift-ready presentation when you need it.
